A Beacon of Hope

During these trying times, local hospitals are a beacon of hope. At the Lauren Small Children’s center at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, we care deeply about helping most vulnerable and immunocompromised children in our community – children like 2020 Local Champion, Kayson Hanly.

Kayson’s Story:

Just days before his 13-month birthday, Kayson was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with a blood sugar level of 850.  He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  He was the youngest local diabetic patient treated in the PICU at the Lauren Small Children’s Center at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.  Currently there are more than 1,000 pediatric diabetic patients in Kern County.

Kayson is a happy and healthy kiddo who loves to ham it up for the camera!  Kayson was selected as the Children’s Miracle Network Local Champion in 2019 and 2020.

Here at the Lauren Small Children’s Center at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, funds raised through the Children’s Miracle Network program continue to fund life-saving medical equipment to help treat local kids like Kayson.

Thank you to everyone who helps raise the funds vital to our hospital by asking your customers and members to donate!  You are changing kids’ health to change the future!
