INTRODUCING: 2017 Miracles on 34th Street Ambassadors

Miracle Kids Help Light Up Bakersfield Memorial Hospital

Miracles on 34th Street continue to light up our world at the Lauren Small Children’s Center at Memorial Hospital.  And, it is with great honor that I introduce you to our three wonderful 2017 Miracles on 34th Street Ambassadors here.

Brock “Hot Sauce” Welch

Brock is a North High School Star who defies all stereotypes and limits that are sometimes put on kids born with Down Syndrome.  He is an athlete and a friend to everyone he meets.  Brock was the first patient to be treated at the Bolthouse Family Pediatrics Department when it opened in the spring of 2016.  Previously, Brock had been sent out of town to receive care for respiratory complications associated with Down Syndrome.  But the expansion of the Lauren Small Children’s Center made it possible for Brock to stay in Bakersfield and receive the treatment he needed here at home, surrounded by family and friends.

Brock’s Story

Kayson Hanly

Just days before his 13-month birthday, Kayson was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  He is the youngest local diabetic patient to be treated in the PICU at the Lauren Small Children’s Center.  Kayson is a happy and healthy kiddo who loves to ham it up for the camera!  Currently, there are more than 1,000 pediatric diabetic patients in Kern County.  Memorial Hospital will soon be opening Kern County’s first and only Pediatric Diabetes Clinic to help children like Kayson.

Kali Rose “Kali Bear” Daniels

Kali Rose is a true miracle child.  She is the smallest baby ever born at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.  She was born unexpectedly at 22 weeks, weighing  only 12 ounces.  She had a difficult journey in her first year of life, spending several months in the Neonatal ICU.  Kali Rose is now a healthy and extremely active toddler.  Her mom, Laura Daniels, supports Children’s Miracle Network because she knows firsthand the lifesaving care Kali Rose received at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.
